No. 8 Josh Emmett vs. No. 10 Lerone Murphy Featherweight Main Event Bout Betting Odds
Lerone Murphy’s (15-0-1) first fight in the UFC has turned out to be indicative of his career so far with the promotion: a draw. He has gone 7-0 in the UFC since then, remaining undefeated, but he’s still only ranked 10th in the featherweight division despite that consistent success. He may finally get a chance to make a more significant leap up the rankings against 40-year-old No. 8 contender Josh Emmett (19-4).
Murphy fought twice in 2024, beating quality competition in Edson Barboza and Dan Ige—both by decision—the former of which earned him Fight of the Night honors. Emmett, meanwhile, hasn’t fought since December 2023, when he starched Bryce Mitchell. He had lost his previous two fights, however, and it’s rare to see UFC fighters find continued success on the wrong side of 40 like Emmett is.
That’s all communicated in the odds we’re getting on this fight from betting apps and sites, as Murphy comes in as a massive favorite here. We’re not sure they should be that long for Emmett, but they’re not quite long enough for us to take a chance on the dog here.
There are a couple of bets we like here. But the one we like best is Lerone Murphy to win via decision at -105. Eight of his 15 wins have come via the judges, including five of his last six. He has shown he can go into deep waters with that five-round Fight of the Night win against Barboza. And obviously, he’s never been finished, even going up against knockout artists with similar power to Emmett in Barboza and Ige.
Murphy will win with precision and volume striking. He’s not overly powerful, which is probably why it’s taken him so long to rise up the UFC ranks. But he’s a very technical fighter that should be able to keep Emmett from getting inside—where the American likes to throw his stinging power shots—with his three-inch height and reach advantages.
Emmett has only been finished twice, and one of those was via submission, which is something Murphy has never done in his pro MMA career. Emmett’s only knockout loss came against Jeremy Stephens, who won that way 19 times in his career. Murphy is more of a bob and weave, death by a thousand cuts kind of fighter. Emmett is tough, so he should be able to make it the full 25 despite getting outclassed on the feet by the Englishman.
Best Bet: Lerone Murphy to Win via Decision (-105) / Betway
