Head-to-head history
Dating back to 2021, Arsenal have been the more successful side in the North London Derby, winning five of the last seven meetings. Spurs’ lone victory during that span came in May of 2022. Last term, it was a thrilling 2-2 draw in the first clash before the Gunners ran out 3-2 winners at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April. It’s always entertaining when these two foes lock horns and it should be a slice to watch on Sunday.
Spurs need a result
It hasn’t been the greatest start to the campaign for Tottenham, compiling a 1-1-1 record. They’ve tied Leicester City, beat Everton, and lost to Newcastle most recently. Despite completely outplaying the Magpies with 66% possession and 20 total shots, an Alexander Isak winner in the 78th minute proved to be the difference maker. Spurs couldn’t make the most of their opportunities, which tends to be a problem at times.
While the Lilywhites have scored six goals in three games, four of them came in one match in a 4-0 thrashing of Everton. This side needs to be a lot more consistent in the final third and a lot of that lands on the shoulders of Heung-min Son. The South Korean superstar has netted twice in three appearances so far. Ange Postecoglou’s men are currently in 10th place in the Premier League table, but that’s not too much of a worry at this point in the campaign.
Having collected a mere one victory in the last seven meetings with Arsenal, there will be no shortage of motivation here for Tottenham to secure three points on home soil. They’re barely an underdog at soccer betting sites. Spurs have every chance to find a result here.
Arsenal chasing the title
The Gunners have been in the title mix for the last two seasons but simply couldn’t overcome Manchester City’s dominance. While that will likely be the case once again, Arsenal is certainly capable of competing for it. Mikel Arteta’s squad is two points out of top spot with a 2-1-0 record, beating Wolves and Aston Villa while a Declan Rice red card against Brighton resulted in a draw.
Arsenal have bagged five goals and only conceded once and that was with 10 men versus the Seagulls. The North Londoners were the best defensive club in the top flight last term and have proven they could be again in ‘24-25. Kai Havertz is off to a rocking start, bagging two goals already. Bukayo Saka meanwhile has assisted three and scored one of his own, too.
The Gunners are facing a concerning injury, however. Martin Odegaard sprained his ankle on international duty with Norway and could miss a few weeks. That will result in Arteta shifting around some of his players to make up for the loss. Regardless, Arsenal will be feeling confident given their recent record against Spurs. They sit at +125 odds at Sports Interaction.
