Timberwolves vs. Mavericks Game 5 Betting Preview, Odds, How To Watch

Despite the fact that they lost the first three games of this series by a combined 16 points, many had already written the Minnesota Timberwolves off before Game 4 in Dallas against the Mavericks. Much of the game went as the previous three, but this time, the T-Wolves were able to hang on in the final few minutes to get the win and bring the series to 3-1 in Dallas’ favor. Can they do it again in Game 5 to force a Game 6?

Highlights

  • Karl-Anthony Towns’ offensive performance will be crucial in Game 5
  • Luka Doncic has been dealing with various ailments for the entire series
  • Dereck Lively II’s status will be important in determining who will win this game

Timberwolves vs. Mavericks Point Spread Betting Preview

Minnesota have shown they can beat the Mavericks throughout this series, they just didn’t know how to finish off games, which makes sense when you consider that they are led by a 22-year-old phenom and Dallas is led by a pair of all-time closers in veterans Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

The Timberwolves are the better, more deep and talented team, but those two killers simply took over every time the clock was about to hit midnight, thwarting fourth quarter Wolves leads in all three games.

It was more of the same in Game 4, but this time Minnesota was able to hold on for a couple of reasons that give us—and apparently Ontario sportsbooks—hope for them in Game 5 as well.

For one, Anthony Edwards finally looks like himself again, as he seemingly got his feet back under him in Game 4. Nine of his 11 makes came inside the arc, including four buckets in the paint, which is by far his high for the series. Dereck Lively II’s absence for the Mavericks also played a factor here as well, so his status for Game 5 will need to be monitored closely.

They also got a resurgent performance from Karl-Anthony Towns, who hit three straight triples in the closing minutes to help seal the deal for Minnesota. Without Lively in there, KAT was also able to get whatever he wanted in the paint, scoring 10 points under the basket. Rudy Gobert also found some mismatches of his own against Luka Doncic, resulting in an easy 4-for-5 night for the Stifle Tower.

If Lively doesn’t play in Game 5, we expect to see more of the same from the Timberwolves, who are a young and excitable group that don’t need too much to get them going. If Lively does play, we’d likely skew more towards the Mavericks, as the Dallas rookie has proven himself to be the key to the matchup difficulties that hurt Minnesota in the first three games.

Here are a few NBA betting trends from this season to consider:

  • Minnesota is 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games
  • Dallas is 10-5 ATS in their last 15 games
  • Dallas is 19-18 ATS as an underdog this year
  • Minnesota is 31-35-2 ATS as the favorite this year
  • Dallas is 23-13 ATS after a loss this year
  • Dallas is 42-26 ATS against Western Conference opponents this year
  • Minnesota is 34-31-2 ATS vs. the West this season
  • Dallas is 15-13 SU this year without Dereck Lively II
  • Minnesota has gone 6-2 SU following wins in these playoffs

Jaden McDaniels (MIN)10.5 (-115/-115)
Daniel Gafford (DAL)9.5 (-128/+100)
Derrick Jones Jr. (DAL)8.5 (-110/-125)

Karl-Anthony Towns finally pushed the ball inside and took advantage of his mismatches in there, which were even more exacerbated without Lively on the floor for Dallas in Game 4. And what do you know, the inside game opened up his outside shooting too! Expect KAT to keep going inside in Game 5 and easily top his 19.5 number, as he scored 25 in Game 4 despite playing just 30 minutes because of foul trouble.
