For the third straight year, Chelsea FC will take on Real Madrid during the knockout stages of the Champions League. Real Madrid got the better of the London side last year on their way to Champions League glory, but the year before that it was Chelsea who took down the Spanish giants on their way to winning it all. Based on recent form, it’s no surprise that Real Madrid come into the first leg of this quarter final tie on April 12th as enormous moneyline favorites on most if not all sports betting sites and betting apps.

Real Madrid Odds
It has been quite a curious season for the current Champions League title holders. While they have been impressive in reaching the UCL quarter finals for the third straight year and are set to play Osasuna for the Copa Del Rey, they have been very inconsistent in La Liga matches.
They have taken just seven points from their last five La Liga appearances, which is a run that should give confident Madrid bettors a bit of pause here. However, with Barcelona 13 points ahead of them in the league, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Carlo Ancelotti have his team focus solely on the cup competitions within their grasp moving forward.
Real Madrid has a much more experienced and cohesive side than their opponents, and the talent they have at the top of the pitch is going to make it very tough for Chelsea to cope. Chelsea do have a very good defensive record in the Premier League, but the defensive lineup they’ve gone with in recent games should have really been torn apart more than it was by Liverpool and Wolves.
Reece James and Marc Cucurella are solid attacking fullbacks who can’t stop anyone. Even Ben Chillwell is only a slight improvement on those two defensively, so expect Vinicius Junior to have himself a field day against the men in blue. Elder center backs like Kalidou Koulibaly and Thiago Silva still have their moments, but they’re likely to struggle against a world class striker like Karim Benzema as well.
Chelsea Odds
As Frank Lampard joined the team as caretaker manager, Chelsea saw the return of key cogs in center half Silva and midfield maestro N’Golo Kante to the team, but it was more of the same even with all of the changes. Chelsea has now failed to score in their last three straight league games, including a brutal 1-0 loss to a team in the relegation battle, Wolves.
Despite a lot of question marks surrounding their defenders regarding everything from age to defensive toughness, Chelsea has managed to limit the number of goals they allow opponents. The real problem for them is their lack of quality in the final third, which has resulted in just 29 league goals this year, good for 13th in the Premier League.
Mikhailo Mudryk has looked overwhelmed whenever he’s on the pitch, Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount have essentially fallen out of favor, Raheem Sterling has been a massive disappointment in his first year with the club, Kai Havertz has yet to find any resemblance of consistency, and Joao Felix has been decent when he’s been able to get on the pitch.
It’s unlikely that Chelsea will be able to hold down the fort for two legs against a team as potent offensively as Real Madrid. So, if they want to win this tie, they will need their attacking players to find some sort of cohesion, a bit of quality in front of goal, and maybe even a little luck in the final third.

There will also be an all-Italian Champions League quarter final fixture on April 12th between Serie A leaders Napoli and AC Milan, who sit in fourth in the Italian top division. Napoli has been a revelation this season, losing just three league games all year while scoring 18 more goals than any other Serie A side.
While AC Milan has won just one of their last six matches in all competitions, that one win was a 4-0 victory over, you guessed it, Napoli. Before that match most people would not have been giving Milan much of a chance here, but after beating the league leaders in such a resounding fashion, they’ll definitely be coming into this tie with a lot of belief, hence the very tight moneyline odds for this match.
