Head-to-head info

While Villa is of course the more dominant side this term, that hasn’t necessarily been the case in this matchup. The Lions have won two straight against Wolves, but the hosts were unbeaten in six meetings before that, including three victories. They’ve also tasted defeat just once in their last five matches on home soil against Villa.

Wolves in trouble

Yes, there have been some moments of positivity for Wolves in 2024-25, but overall, this is a disappointing campaign for the club. As things stand, Vitor Pereira’s side would be relegated. They’ve picked up just 16 points from 23 games, compiling a 4-4-15 record. Wolves have scored 32 goals while conceding 52 – the second-highest total in the top flight behind only Southampton.

Wolverhampton are winless in their last five EPL matches, only scoring three times during that span and tasting defeat four times. A 2-2 draw with Spurs was the only bright spot. Wolves did find themselves actually fighting for a potential point against Arsenal last weekend but the Gunners scored a winner late in the second half. Both clubs were playing with just nine men. The last time Wolves won in Premier League action was on Boxing Day, beating Manchester United 2-0.

As you can see, Wolves’ biggest issue is conceding goals. Their backline has been hopeless and that isn’t ideal ahead of an encounter with a Villa side who are very strong up top. Pereira’s men do have their own goal scorers however, with Matheus Cunha leading the way with 10 goals and four assists this term. Jorgen Strand Larsen also has netted seven times, but he’s sidelined due to injury for Saturday’s clash. Wolves are a slim underdog here at  soccer betting sites.

Villa looking to surge into top six

The Lions are flourishing in Europe and booked a top-eight spot to put them automatically in the last 16. In England however, they haven’t been as consistent. Villa is in eighth place but sits just four points off fourth place Man City. With a victory and results going their way elsewhere, Unai Emery’s squad could easily find themselves in a UCL spot.

Villa is 2-3-0 in their last five league outings, mustering up a pair of draws against Arsenal and West Ham across the last two weekends. The Lions grabbed a huge 4-2 victory over Celtic in the UCL mid-week though, initially blowing a 2-0 lead before Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers came to the rescue.

The club did just lose a massive piece of their attack, however. Jhon Duran, just 21, decided to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Saudi Pro League outfit Al Nassr. That’s a huge loss for Villa considering Duran’s impact at Villa Park. More responsibility will be put on the shoulders of Watkins and Rogers in particular. The visitors have +115 odds for Saturday at Betway.
