Highlights
- Tottenham and Wolverhampton clash on Sunday
- Spurs are the home favorite
- Who will win this one? We’ll preview the match below
Head-to-head history
History is definitely on Wolverhampton’s side. They’ve won three straight meetings with Spurs, outscoring them 5-2 in the process. All of those victories came in Premier League action. Before that however, Tottenham won four of five games against Wolves. These two are in very different form though, so it should be an interesting fixture in North London.
Spurs need points
It has not been a pretty campaign so far for Ange Postecoglou’s men. They’re way down in 11th place in the Premier League table with a 7-2-9 record. As of late, Spurs can barely win a game, losing four of their last five outings. Last Sunday, Tottenham played host to league leaders Liverpool but it turned out to be a very ugly day.
The Lilywhites were hammered 6-3 and were even down 5-1 at one point as Mo Salah and Co. completely ripped apart their backline. Then on Boxing Day, Spurs were looking to respond from that deflating defeat, but instead, they lost again, this time to Nottingham Forest, who scored within the first 30 minutes.
Spurs enjoyed 70% of the possession but were completely toothless in the final third, registering a mere four shots on target. While it’s still early in the season, Tottenham must turn around their form in a hurry or they will be stuck in the bottom half of the table. Despite their lack of results lately, Sports Interaction is giving the hosts -185 moneyline odds for Sunday’s game.
Wolves are feeling it
Wolverhampton may be in 17th spot and only one point above safety, but they’re playing a mile better lately. Wolves handed Leicester a 3-0 loss last weekend before taking care of the Red Devils on Thursday. Bruno Fernandes received his second yellow in the 47th minute and it was all downhill from there for Man United.
Matheu Cunha put his side ahead just 11 minutes later before Hee-Chan Hwang also scored another deep into injury time. Wolves will need a lot more than just two wins to move up the table, but it’s certainly a start. And despite United being short a man, beating a club of that stature is always going to be a feather in the cap.
Conceding goals has been a problem for Vitor Pereira’s group, allowing 40 in just 18 games. However, they’ve kept clean sheets in back-to-back matches now, which is a promising sign. Those were also Pereira’s first two games since being hired. Up top, Cunha has been the main man with nine goals and three assists. Jorgen Strand Larsen has also scored six goals of his own. Wolves are a heavy underdog at soccer betting sites for this match, but they come in with a ton of confidence. Anything is possible.
