Head-to-head history
Chelsea has been the more dominant club in this clash for quite a few years now. They’ve won seven of the last nine and have only tasted defeat once during that span. Last term, the Blues secured the double against Tottenham with 4-1 and 2-0 victories. They’ve also won four of their last five visits to North London.
Spurs are struggling
It hasn’t been a great campaign for Tottenham so far. They own a 6-2-6 record and sit in 10th place in the Premier League table with 20 points. While Spurs are just 2-1-2 in their last five, one of those victories came against Manchester City, beating the title-holders 4-0 at the Etihad. But, Ange Postecoglou’s men couldn’t keep up the consistency after that.
The Lilywhites settled for back-to-back draws before losing to Bournemouth on Thursday. Spurs completely dominated possession with 65% of the ball but the Cherries battered their backline with 21 total attempts, including eight on target. Tottenham meanwhile had only four attempts on goal. Spurs haven’t necessarily been awful in any particular area, scoring the third-most goals in the top flight and conceding just 15 times. They’ve just suffered several close defeats that have hurt them.
On a more positive note, it’s still extremely early in the season, and Spurs are only eight points off second-place Chelsea. A victory on Sunday would do wonders for their hopeful climb up the table. The hosts are a slim underdog at soccer betting sites.
Chelsea is looking like a title contender
The Blues may have had a couple of difficult seasons, but it looks like everything is finally coming together. Despite having the youngest squad in the Premier League, Enzo Maresca’s team is currently in second place and thriving week in and week out.
Chelsea has an impressive 8-4-2 record and has gone unbeaten in their last five outings across all competitions, notching wins against Leicester City, Aston Villa, and Southampton while settling for a hard-fought point against Arsenal.
Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have formed an unstoppable partnership up top. Palmer has nine goals and six assists, while Jackson has netted eight times and set up three. These two have built fantastic chemistry and continue to be a huge reason Chelsea is in the mix for the title at the moment. But, they still have work to do, sitting seven points behind Liverpool. The Blues are sitting at +110 odds for Sunday’s affair at Sports Interaction.
Tottenham vs Chelsea injury news
