Head-to-head history

This clash has been quite even in recent memory. Five of the last eight meetings have ended level while Chelsea beat United 4-3 in April. However, prior to that, the Red Devils did win back-to-back matches against their Premier League rivals. In fact, they’re unbeaten in the last 11 home games versus Chelsea.

Can United turn it around?

While it’s still early in the season, it’s been a very poor start for Manchester United. They’re 14th in the table and have struggled immensely to produce in the final third, bagging just eight goals in nine outings while conceding 11. The Red Devils board had seen enough under ten Hag, who was sacked earlier this week. Amorim is his replacement and brings a decorated resume from his time in the Portuguese top flight. The hope is a change in the Old Trafford dugout can turn around the campaign before it’s too late.

United did manage to hammer Leicester City 5-2 in midweek Carabao Cup action, which showed signs of improvement, especially up top. Both Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes scored braces while Alejandro Garnacho also hit the back of the net. It was promising to see their attack actually thrive for once. Hopefully, they can carry that into Sunday’s affair.

If the Red Devils do win, it’ll be the first time they’ve grabbed three straight victories against Chelsea on home soil since 1957. Although Amorim is the new boss, he won’t join until Nov. 11. That means Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain the interim manager for the time being. United has +150 odds for Sunday’s affair at Sports Interaction.

Chelsea looking good

Despite having the youngest squad in the Premier League, Chelsea is looking solid. The Blues are in fifth spot in the table and just six points out of first place with a 5-2-2 record, bagging 19 goals and conceding just 11. Cole Palmer is once again proving why he’s one of the best players in England, already scoring seven and supplying five assists.

Strike partner Nicolas Jackson is also having a nice campaign with six goals and three assists. These two have accounted for more than half of Chelsea’s goals. Palmer bagged the winner last Sunday against Newcastle, but the Blues slipped up on Wednesday, getting shut out by the Magpies. That knocked them out of the Carabao Cup.

This upcoming spell will be a very good test for Enzo Maresca’s men. They face United, Arsenal, Leicester City, and Aston Villa across the next four games. But, the focus right now will strictly be on Sunday. Chelsea hasn’t won at Old Trafford since 2013. It’s a long time coming for the Blues, who could really use another three points here. Their odds are very similar to the Red Devils at soccer betting sites.
