Head-to-head history

The Northwest Derby has been all Liverpool in recent memory. They’ve only lost once in their last 13 Premier League meetings with Man United, winning seven and drawing five times. The Red Devils have failed to win in their previous eight visits to Anfield as well. They last met in September, with the Merseysiders running out 3-0 winners at Old Trafford.

Liverpool flying high

The Reds are truly having a phenomenal campaign and look to be a contender not only for the Premier League title but also the Champions League trophy. Arne Slot’s men are six points clear at the top of the table with an impressive 14-3-1 record, bagging 45 goals in 18 games while conceding just 17 times. No one has been able to touch Liverpool in the Premier League, with their only defeat coming in September against Nottingham Forest.

The Reds are enjoying a 23-match unbeaten run, with a mere three draws during that span. They’ve won their last three games convincingly, taking down Tottenham, Leicester City, and West Ham. The victory over the Hammers made a loud statement, going up three goals by the halftime whistle. Mo Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Diogo Jota all hit the back of the net in the win as Liverpool fully showed off their potent attack.

Salah, who still hasn’t signed a new deal, has been absolutely on fire this term. He leads the top flight in both goals and assists, bagging 17 and setting up 13. There is nothing the Egyptian can’t do in the final third and he’ll be a key factor once again in Sunday’s derby. As expected, the hosts are favored at Sports Interaction with -345 moneyline odds for this fixture.

United in terrible form

While Liverpool is thriving, Man United continues to struggle. Despite a manager change, Ruben Amorim hasn’t been able to help this club turn things around. They’re in 14th place in the EPL standings and a whole nine points off a top-six spot. Things couldn’t be going any worse for one of the most storied teams in world football. Their form is atrocious and a big problem is the Red Devils’ inability to find the back of the net.

The side has only scored 21 times in 19 games, with Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes bagging four goals apiece. However, Rashford has fallen out of favor under Amorim and looks to be on his way out in the summer after spending his entire career in Manchester. The Red Devils were disappointing on Monday, going two goals down to Newcastle within the first 20 minutes. They never recovered.

That was actually their fourth straight defeat across all competitions and there’s really no sign of them flipping the switch, especially when they’re now up against a club as strong as Liverpool. Plus, United’s next game after Sunday is in the FA Cup versus Arsenal, another difficult team. The Red Devils’ last win came in mid-December in the Manchester Derby against Man City. You can see why the visitors are a clear underdog this weekend at soccer betting sites.
