Head-to-head info

Man City has enjoyed their fair share of success against the Reds in recent years, going unbeaten in the last four meetings. While the last two games finished level, City won two straight prior to that. However, Liverpool did win three of four meetings back in 2022. This will surely be an entertaining fixture and one that could have major implications for the title race, even though it’s still very early in the campaign.

Liverpool is flourishing

It’s been a brilliant season thus far for the Reds under new boss Arne Slot, who took over for Jurgen Klopp in the summer. The club has only lost once across all competitions and that was in September. In the Premier League, Liverpool has a 10-1-1 record and as previously mentioned, sit comfortably in top spot. They’ve bagged 24 goals while conceding a league-low eight times. From front to back, the Merseysiders are thriving.

Last Sunday was a more difficult match than expected as the Reds had to come from behind to beat Southampton 3-2. Mo Salah was once again the star of the show, scoring a brace. The Egyptian has 10 goals and six assists in the Premier League already. Slot’s men followed up that victory with three Champions League points against Madrid on home soil, beating them 2-0. Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo produced the goods while Liverpool’s backline completely shut down Kylian Mbappe.

The Reds are a perfect 5-0-0 in Europe’s most prized competition and and have won six straight games overall. Liverpool truly looks like the real deal and could very well win it all both in England and in the Champions League. But, the focus right now will strictly be on grabbing the full points on Sunday against a City outfit who are in atrocious form. The hosts are are a +110 favorite at Sports Interaction.

Worst spell for City under Guardiola

Pep Guardiola just signed an extension to remain at the Etihad for possibly two more seasons, but the timing wasn’t exactly great. City is playing their worst football in years. The reigning EPL champions are winless in the last six matches and five of those ended in defeat. The Sky Blues looked on their way to a convincing three points in the UCL on Tuesday but blew a 3-0 lead in just 14 minutes against Dutch standouts Feyenoord.

City was also embarrassed last Saturday at the Etihad, losing 4-0 to Tottenham. No one can really understand what’s going on with Man City, but a turn in form is surely coming. That being said, they have a ridiculously difficult task ahead of them on Sunday, with Liverpool dominating everybody they’ve played this term.

Guardiola’s squad is still in second in the Premier League standings with a 7-2-3 record, but they’re just one point ahead of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Brighton, who all sit at 22 points. A defeat here and positive results for any of those three clubs could result in City dropping a spot or two in the table. City is a slim underdog at soccer betting sites.

Liverpool vs Man City injury news

The Reds will have Trent Alexander-Arnold back in the mix here, but Ibrahima Konate, Federico Chiesa, Diogo Jota, Alisson Becker, and Kostas Tsimikas remain out with injuries. As for City, they will be without Rodri, Mateo Kovacic, John Stones, and Oscar Bobb. They’re all sidelined with injuries as well.
