Liverpool vs Chelsea Head-to-head history

Dating back to 2019, it’s been all Liverpool in head-to-head with Chelsea. They’ve only lost twice in 16 meetings across all competitions. They’re also unbeaten in the last seven against the Blues, notching four wins during that span. The Reds won 4-1 and settled for a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in their two meetings in the 2023-24 campaign.

Liverpool looking solid under Arne Slot

There were some doubts about how Liverpool would fare without Jurgen Klopp, but the adjustment under new manager Arne Slot has been rather smooth. The Reds are one point clear at the top of the table with a 6-0-1 record, bagging 13 goals and only conceding twice. Their only defeat came in September against Nottingham Forest.

By no surprise, Mo Salah is leading the way. He’s scored four goals and set up another four while Luis Diaz has also netted five. Liverpool’s attack is one of the most talented in the world and they’ve put their talent on full display. Defensively, this side has been absolutely brilliant in front of Allison. Two goals allowed through seven games is their lowest total since 2007-08.

While the Reds’ start is impressive, the league leaders have yet to really be tested yet. Chelsea is their first difficult game and they will need to bring their best. Arsenal is next up on matchday nine as well. These next couple of weeks will be a good measure to see if Liverpool is truly a title contender or not. The hosts are a -153 favorite for Sunday’s affair at Sports Interaction.

Is Chelsea for real?

The Blues were quite inconsistent last term despite a strong end to the campaign. Mauricio Pochettino ultimately left the club and Chelsea hired former Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca to take over. While he’s made some questionable decisions with the squad including letting Raheem Sterling leave for Arsenal, the Blues have impressed so far.

Chelsea is in fourth spot and just four points behind first-place Liverpool, which means a victory at Anfield could move them up the table. The goals are flowing, netting 16 times while allowing just eight. Englishman Cole Palmer continues to prove why he’s one of the most exciting attackers on the globe, scoring six and tallying five assists. Palmer is a building block for this club and already solidifying himself as a regular starter for the Three Lions, too.

The Blues weren’t at their best on October 6 however, taking away just one point against Forest. Chris Wood put the visitors ahead in the 49th minute before Noni Madueke equalized just eight minutes later. Chelsea had 66% of the ball and 22 shots but lacked the finishing product. It won’t be any easier against Liverpool, who have a stellar backline. While the full three points are the ultimate goal, grabbing a lone point wouldn’t be a terrible outcome, either. The Blues are a heavy underdog at soccer betting sites.
