Brentford vs Aston Villa H2H history
History is definitely on Villa’s side when these two teams lock horns. The visitors have gone unbeaten in their last five meetings with Brentford, winning on three occasions. The Lions grabbed a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture in December at Villa Park. The Bees haven’t beaten Villa since January of 2022.
Can Brentford turn around their fortunes?
It’s been a respectable campaign for Brentford, who sit in 11th place with an 11-5-11 record, collecting 38 points from 27 games. They’re currently four points behind Villa in 10th, which means a victory here would be crucial in order to get closer to the top half of the table. Despite their improved form, however, finding three points against the Lions has been a struggle, as previously discussed.
On top of that, Thomas Frank’s side aren’t in the greatest shape on home soil, going winless in their last six games at the Gtech Community Stadium. That was after a run where the club won seven of their first eight games at home. On a more positive note, Brentford hasn’t lost since February 21, beating West Ham and Leicester before settling for a draw with Everton. Yoane Wissa put the Bees ahead before halftime but the Toffees found a late equalizer through Jake O’Brien.
Wissa and Bryan Mbuemo are a huge reason Brentford is one of the more clinical sides in the top flight. Wissa has bagged 13 goals this term, while Mbuemo has scored 15 and set up another four. Mikkel Damsgaard meanwhile has 10 assists, serving as the Bees’ top playmaker. They will all be looking to create havoc on Saturday. The hosts have +130 odds at Sports Interaction.
Aston Villa still chasing UCL spot
The Villans have impressed heavily in Europe’s most prized competition, soaring into the Round of 16 in flying colors and grabbing a convincing first-leg victory over Club Brugge. They finished in the top eight of the expanded table and beat some impressive opponents along the way, including PSG. That being said, the Lions haven’t been as consistent in England.
Unai Emery’s group is in 10th but still has a realistic chance at making the top four. With 42 points, only five points separate them and Manchester City, who are currently in fourth. Obviously winning the UCL would secure an automatic berth, but that’s an unrealistic goal at this point. Villa was absolutely clinical against Brugge, netting three of their four attempts on target.
Leon Bailey opened the scoring within three minutes while an own goal gave them a 2-1 lead late in the second half before January transfer window loanee Marco Asensio capitalized from the penalty spot. Just days before the win, Villa also advanced in the FA Cup, eliminating Cardiff City. Despite such an impressive track record against Brentford, they also have plus odds for Saturday’s tilt at soccer betting sportsbooks.
