Year to year, the NFL Draft is one of the most anticipated events for NFL fans and for a lot of people betting on NFL games. For some teams, the draft is the first step to the start of a new era. Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was the expected number one pick last year. This year, bettors on BetMGM are putting their money behind Miami quarterback Cam Ward.

Highlights

  • BetMGM betting numbers for the first pick of the NFL Draft
  • Over half the money on quarterback Cam Ward
  • Quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the mix

Most of the money on BetMGM on Cameron Ward to be the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft

Judging by -10000 odds and how BetMGM bettors have bet so far, the public believes that quarterback Cam Ward is a lock to be the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Betting data for the first pick was posted by BetMGM last week, over half of the money bet on the first pick of the draft was on Cam Ward to be selected first. On BetMGM, 62.7 per cent of the money was on Ward to be picked first. Ward was the quarterback for the University of Miami. Ward is currently a huge betting favourite with -10000 odds to be the first pick on BetMGM. Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter has the second best odds at +2500. Colorado wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter has the third best odds at +4000. Hunter also won the Heisman Trophy.

Although Ward had more than half of the money on him to be the first pick, fewer than 15 per cent of the tickets were on Ward. BetMGM revealed that 14.5 per cent of the tickets were on Ward. Hunter had the most tickets on him to go first despite having almost 50 per cent less money — 13.7 per cent handle — on him than Ward. Hunter had 28.6 per cent of the tickets.

Shedeur Sanders in the mix

The 2025 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 24-26. The first round begins on April 24. Leading up to the draft, the NFL world has debated which player will be picked first. Some of the names that have been in the conversation are Ward, Hunter, Carter, and Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders has been one of the most talked about players in this year’s draft class and is recognized as one of the top quarterbacks in the draft. He had the second most tickets on him to be the first pick with 20.1 per cent of the tickets. Sanders had the third most money on him to be the first pick with 12.4 per cent of the money, behind Ward and Hunter. On the sportsbook, he has the fourth best odds. Sanders has +6600 odds at the moment. Carter has better odds than Sanders on BetMGM at +2500. However, Carter had less tickets with 11.1 per cent and less money on him with 5.6 per cent.

The other contenders

The other players in the top 10 for tickets were Jaxson Dart, Quinn Ewers, Will Campbell, Mason Graham, Ashton Jeanty, and Jalen Milroe. Judging by the odds on the NFL sportsbooks and the bets on BetMGM, none of them are expected to be the first pick. Jeanty was the only player in the top 10 for tickets who wasn’t in the top 10 for most money bet to be the first pick. Jeanty had 1.6 per cent of the tickets and 0.2 per cent of the money bet.
