Two divisional rivals begin a three-game set on Monday, April 28 as the first-place New York Yankees visit the struggling Baltimore Orioles. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EDT. The Bronx Bombers just won back-to-back games against the Toronto Blue Jays and continue to play solid baseball. As for the O’s, they’re looking to end a three-game losing skid. The Detroit Tigers just swept them.

Yankees vs Orioles Odds

The Yankees are a -120 moneyline favorite, while the Orioles come back at +100 at MLB betting sites.

This is the first meeting of 2025 between these two ball clubs, but the O’s had more success against the Yankees last season, going 8-5 in 13 contests, despite another early playoff exit.

Yankees vs Orioles Analysis

The Bronx Bombers had a busy offseason to make sure they have a chance at another World Series run, and so far, their moves are paying off. NY is sitting at 17-11 and have a two-game lead at the top of the AL East. By no surprise, Aaron Judge is leading the way. The reigning AL MVP leads the big leagues in average (.408) and hits (40). He’s also smacked seven home runs. New York is top-five in the Majors in nearly every offensive category and they’ve thrown the ball well on the mound, compiling a 3.87 ERA as a staff.

Aaron Boone sends Will Warren to the hill for the opener against the Orioles. He’s made five starts, going 1-0 with a 4.79 ERA. Warren has struck out 21 hitters in 20.2 innings of work while walking 10. Last time out, the righty allowed two earned runs across five frames versus the Cleveland Guardians. Warren has never faced Baltimore before in his young career.

The Orioles were seen as a contender once again ahead of the ‘25 season, but they’ve been severely disappointing in all areas. Brandon Hyde’s group is seven games below .500 and at the bottom of the AL East. Essentially nothing is going right for the O’s. They’re 15th in runs scored, 24th in hits, and 23rd in average. On the hill, it’s even worse. Baltimore has a 5.28 ERA as a staff. That’s dead last in the MLB. To make matters worse, they just played Tyler O’Neill on the 10-day IL.

The O’s will put their trust in Tomoyuki Sugano in this contest. The Japanese righty has been pretty reliable in his first big league season, going 2-1 in five appearances with a 3.54 ERA. He’s only struck out nine in 28 innings, which means Sugano keeps his defense very busy. The Yankees have never seen Sugano, but he is prone to the long ball, giving up six already. He’ll have to be careful against the likes of Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Ben Rice.

Yankees vs Orioles Picks

It’s hard to know what will happen here because neither pitcher has any history against their respective opponent. However, the Yankees are rolling, and the Orioles are struggling immensely. I’ll take New York’s bats to stay hot and take Game 1 of this series. Lock in the moneyline.
