Head-to-head info
While City is clearly a much stronger club, they haven’t been very dominant against Tottenham in recent years. Spurs knocked the Sky Blues out of the League Cup in October. Man City has just three wins in the last eight meetings with the North London outfit, with Tottenham compiling four victories of their own during that span across all competitions.
Will the break help City?
If there was any club in the world who was in need of the international break, it was Man City. The Premier League title-holders are in horrid form at the moment, losing to Spurs, Bournemouth, Sporting CP, and Brighton. While three of those games were 2-1 scorelines, the Portuguese giants hammered them 4-1 in the Champions League.
However, Guardiola just signed a new extension to stay at the Etihad beyond 2025 with the option for a further year. That was a huge topic of conversation at City considering his current deal was set to expire next summer. Knowing their manager will be around for the foreseeable future should also give a boost to the squad.
The Cityzens are in second place in the Premier League table with a 7-2-2 record, sitting five points behind Liverpool in top spot. They’ve yet to lose at home in league action, going 4-1-0. Erling Haaland is once again leading the way up top, bagging 12 goals in just 11 appearances. He’s scored more than half of the club’s goals. The Norwegian just netted four times in two Nations League matches with his country so hopefully, Haaland can carry that form back to Manchester for Saturday’s clash. The hosts are -200 favorites at Sports Interaction.
Tottenham need a result
Spurs are not off to the greatest start, sitting in 10th place in the standings with a 5-1-5 record. Consistency has been an issue for the Lilywhites as of late, especially since knocking City out of the Carabao Cup. Tottenham has just one victory in their last three games and was upset by Ipswich Town on November 10 on home turf by a score of 2-1.
Ange Postecoglou’s side went down 2-0 by halftime and could never recover. Rodrigo Bentacur hit the back of the net in the 69th minute, but it was too little too late. Spurs controlled 66% of the possession and had 17 total chances yet couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities. Tottenham is actually first in the top flight in goals scored and has only conceded 13 times.
Unfortunately, a lot of one-goal outcomes have occurred. It’s been refreshing that Heung-min Son has had help in the final third though, with Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke, and James Maddison, among others, all doing their part. Son also has three goals and three assists. Considering Spurs’ last victory over City in Cup play, they will have some confidence on Saturday despite sitting as a huge underdog at soccer betting sites.
