The 2024-25 NHL season has around a month left before the playoffs begin, which means it’s a perfect time to take a look at the Hart Trophy betting futures. At this point, there’s a clear favorite in Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl, who is carrying his team this season alongside Connor McDavid. Winnipeg Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck also remains in the mix, while reigning winner Nathan MacKinnon isn’t totally out of the question yet, too.

Highlights

  • Connor Hellebuyck still has a slim chance

Hart Trophy Winners: Last 10 Years

2023-24 - Nathan MacKinnon

2022-23 - Connor McDavid

2021-22 - Auston Matthews

2020-21 - Connor McDavid

2019-20 - Leon Draisaitl

2018-19 - Nikita Kucherov

2017-18 - Taylor Hall

2016-17 - Connor McDavid

2015-16 - Patrick Kane

2014-15 - Carey Price

Leon Draisaitl (-183)

Based on his odds, you can clearly see that Draisaitl has pretty much solidified the Hart Trophy already. As previously mentioned, he was also the winner five years ago. The German is having an electrifying campaign for the Oilers, who are looking to get back to the Stanley Cup. Draisaitl leads the NHL in goals with 49, sitting 13 ahead of William Nylander in second. When it comes to points, Draisaitl has 100, just two behind MacKinnon at 102.

Overall, the 29-year-old has 49 goals and 51 helpers and has been on absolute fire since the 4 Nations, tallying at least a point in eight of 11 games. Draisaitl finished with 43 goals and 67 assists in ‘19-20 when he won the Hart.

Connor Hellebuyck (+130)

A goaltender rarely wins the NHL MVP award. In fact, the last time it happened was in 2014-15 when Montreal Canadiens netminder Carey Price was crowned the best player in the league. Before that, Dominik Hasek won it in back-to-back seasons between 1996 and 1998. While it’s unlikely Hellebuyck will pull it off this season, it’s hard to ignore his dominant season.

The Jets netminder leads the NHL in wins (39), GAA (1.98), save percentage (.927), and shutouts (6). He’s a massive reason Winnipeg is the best team in the league right now. He owns a ridiculous 39-9-3 record and the Jets are 46-17-4 as a team. Hellebuyck has the second-best odds at NHL sportsbooks. He’s a lock to win the Vezina Trophy for the third time, which is historic in itself.

Nathan MacKinnon (+600)

Yes, MacKinnon has +600 odds, but it’s still ridiculously impressive that he’s able to put up such solid numbers season after season. As I mentioned earlier, he’s first in the NHL in points with 102. The reason his odds are lower this season is because of the goals. He has 75 helpers but just 27 goals. MacKinnon scored 51 times in 2023-24 en route to the Hart Trophy. That’s what set him apart from the pack last season.

Hart Trophy Picks

At this point, it’s pretty clear who is going to win the Hart. While Hellebuyck’s brilliance in between the posts is unreal, goalies simply do not take home the Hart too often, especially when a player like Draisaitl is producing such massive numbers on a consistent basis. Take the German at -183.

Pick: Leon Draisaitl to win Hart Trophy -183
