Euro 2024: Spain vs Germany quarterfinals betting preview

We’ve been blessed with a tantalizing first quarterfinal on Friday, July 5th at Euro 2024 as Spain goes to battle with hosts Germany at the MHPArena in Stuttgart. The kick-off here is scheduled for 12 PM ET. The Spaniards find themselves in the last eight after smashing Georgia 4-1 in the Round of 16 after initially going down by a goal. As for the Germans, they were also convincing in their last match, beating Denmark 2-0 thanks to goals from Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz. Spain and Germany are no strangers to facing each other. Since 1935, they’ve met 27 times overall. The Germans have nine victories, while Espana have eight. The two settled for eight draws as well. In recent memory, Spain has been the better team, going unbeaten in the last four meetings. Three of those ended level, but they did hammer Germany 6-0 in the Nations League in 2020.

When you look around at the countries left at Euro 2024, essentially all of the clear-cut contenders have failed to live up to expectations. With that being said, Spain is the one powerhouse who is actually performing. Luis de La Fuente’s men won all three matches in their group, finishing above Italy, Croatia, and Albania. They scored five goals and didn’t concede once.

That momentum carried over to the last 16 where they were handed a Georgia side who progressed to the knockout rounds in their very first European Championship. But despite conceding first via an own goal from defender Robin Le Normand, Spain roared back. Rodri tucked away a beautiful strike to equalize before Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams, and Dani Olmo also hit the back of the net in the second half. The Spaniards enjoyed 75% of the possession and had a whopping 35 shots, with 13 finding the target.

La Roja have always been a team who can outpass any opponent in the world and this match was a prime example against a weaker side like Georgia. Germany

After disappointing in past major tournaments, Germany actually has an opportunity to conquer this competition on home soil. They undoubtedly started off with a bang, hammering Scotland 5-1 in the Euro 2024 opener. A victory over Hungary followed before a 1-1 stalemate with a strong Switzerland outfit on matchday three.

That set up a tasty encounter with Christian Eriksen and Denmark. The Danes appeared to take the lead early in the first half through Joachim Andersen. But, the goal was deemed offside and just minutes later, he gave up a penalty due to a handball. Havertz clinically hit the net and only 15 minutes after that, Musiala scored a wondergoal.

The German attack has been fantastic in this tournament. Musiala is the leading man with three goals, while Havertz and super-substitute Niclas Fullkrug have also netted twice. Germany’s backline, anchored by Antonio Rudiger, are also performing well. They will have their hands full on Friday though with Spain’s versatile frontline.
