We’re less than two weeks out from Euro 2024, with hosts Germany kicking off the tournament on Friday, June 14th against Scotland. This competition is always a thrill to watch for football fans and it shouldn’t be any different this time around. Heading into the prestigious event, Gareth Southgate’s star-studded England squad is the favorite to lift the trophy after claiming second place three years ago. The usual big guns are also in the mix, including the Germans, France, Portugal, and Spain.

Euro 2024: England favorites to win tournament over Germany, France
Highlights
- England is the current Euro 2024 favorite
- Hosts Germany, France, and Portugal are other contenders
- We’ll discuss some of the best sides below
England
This could be one of the best England squads the country has ever had. Up top, Harry Kane will lead the line after a phenomenal debut campaign at Bayern Munich. Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden are surely going to see ample minutes in Germany as well, two of the best young players in the world, and of course, in the Premier League. In the middle of the pitch, Southgate will turn to Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham, two physical midfielders who can also contribute in the final third. At the back, John Stones, Kyle Walker, and Harry Maguire are all solid. The Three Lions tasted defeat in the showpiece in 2021 against Italy and will be looking to put that result in the rearview by winning it all this summer. England is a +275 favorite at BetVictor.
Germany
The hosts have been disappointing in recent major tournaments, but there is optimism for Euro 2024. Germany will rely on Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Florian Wirtz, and Leroy Sane in the final third, who all had impressive campaigns for their respective clubs. Thomas Muller is still around for at least one more tournament, while Toni Kroos is set to retire altogether after the competition. Defensively, the Germans are strong with Antonio Rudiger, Jonathan Tah, and Joshua Kimmich, among others. We’ll see if they can live up to expectations. Julian Nagelsmann’s men have the second-best Euro 2024 odds at most soccer betting sites.
France
Les Bleus are always a force, no matter if it’s the World Cup or Euros. Kylian Mbappe is an absolute killer in front of goal and he’s accompanied by tons of talent including Ousmane Dembele, Olivier Giroud, Eduardo Camavinga, Jules Kounde, and Antoine Griezmann. That’s just a glimpse. A lot of their same squad from Qatar remains. France last won this tournament back in 2000 and finished as a runner-up in 2016, losing to Portugal in the final.
Spain
You can never count out Spain, who won the 2018 and 2012 European Championships. They also lifted the World Cup in 2010. While the legends from that team are no longer around, Espana still has a lot of intriguing players. It’s a nice mix of youth and experience, such as Pedri, Aymeric Laporte, Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Morata, Rodri, and Dani Olmo. Spain bowed out in the semifinals at Euro 2020.
Portugal
Roberto Martinez is now in charge of Portugal after failing to win a major tournament with Belgium. This squad looks more or less the same as the World Cup, with Cristiano Ronaldo still around following a terrific campaign with Al Nassr where he bagged 35 goals and tallied 11 assists in 31 league appearances. Names like Bernardo Silva, Joao Felix, Rafael Leao, Jose Sa, Bruno Fernandes, and Ruben Neves will be familiar to Selecao fans. This group has great chemistry and should undoubtedly be in the mix in the knockout stages.
