The 2024 Copa America rolls on for the nations of Group A on Tuesday, June 25, and the contest we’re focusing on is on the early evening matchup between the Canadians and Peruvians. The contest will take place in Kansas City at the home of the city’s MLS team at Children’s Mercy Park at 6:00PM E.T.

Canada comes into this match after losing the tournament opener to Argentina in a way that should have given them confidence for the rest of these group fixtures. Peru, meanwhile, did a solid job of allowing Chile only impotent possession while leading the 0-0 match with four shots on target.

Canada vs Peru Analysis

Canada lost 2-0 to Argentina in their opener, but it was about as valiant a 2-0 defeat as you’ll see, as they kept their foot on the gas and asked the defending champs some serious questions. They just need to make sure they tighten up their defense a little bit, as the Argentinians missed a couple of chances right on the doorstep.

Team news: No recent major injuries or outstanding suspension risks.

Predicted Lineup: Keeper: Maxime Crepeau; Defenders: Derek Cornelius, Moise Bombito, Alphonso Davies, Alistair Johnston; Midfielders: Stephen Eustaquio, Ismael Kone, Liam Millar, Tajon Buchanan; Forwards: Cyle Larin, Jonathan David

Peru

Peru wasn’t able to get the three points against Chile in their opener last Friday, but they had a game plan and pretty much executed it to near-perfection. They allowed Chileans to hold the ball while allowing them no real threat, as the opposition managed just one shot on target and 0.91 xG on 65 percent possession. Peru got at them in the counter attack, hitting the target four times.

Team news: No recent major injuries or outstanding suspension risks.

Predicted Lineup: Keeper: Pedro Gallese; Defenders: Carlos Zambrano, Alexander Callens, Miguel Araujo; Midfielders: Piero Quispe, Sergio Pena, Wilder Cartagena, Luis Advincula, Andy Polo; Forwards: Edison Flores, Gianluca Lapadula

Canada vs Peru Match Prediction

Both these nations have really struggled to find the back of the net recently, with Canada’s last goal against a squad that made the 2024 Copa or the 2024 Euros coming last November against Jamaica. Meanwhile, Peru has failed to score in seven of their last 10 matches in all competitions. Looking at the match logs of their top scorers, you’re going to find a lot of zeroes over the last few months.

However, both of these squads also put forth solid performances in their opening matches that they’ll be expecting to build on. Besides, this pair of Group A sides basically have no chance of advancing to the knockouts unless they get a result here, so this one should be very cagey.

It’s a tough call, but considering Peru is the higher-ranked FIFA nation and kept their opponent off the score sheet on Matchday 1, we’re surprised to see their soccer betting odds offering so much more value than Canada’s. If we had to, we’d take Peru to win at +210, but we’ve got a better prop for you to consider.

Canada vs. Peru Best Bet:

Under 2.5 Total Goals (-172) | Sports Interaction

While we’re not in love with the -172 odds we’re getting from Sports Interaction and other Ontario sportsbooks on this prop, it does make sense, because those oddsmakers must have been getting the same information as us.

10 of Peru’s last 11 matches have ended with two or fewer goals, while the Canadians have struggled to find their shooting boots recently, failing to find the back of the net in their last three straight matches. Canada did look likely against Argentina, but a lack of quality in the final phase kept them off the score sheet. While we don’t expect a 0-0 draw, this should be a very cautious match between two sides that many didn’t expect to make the quarter finals.
