Head-to-head history

PSG and Man City are familiar foes, clashing seven times in Europe’s most prized competition. The Premier League giants have won four, while Paris has just one victory. The two other meetings ended level. Their most recent encounters came in the 2021, locking horns four times. City knocked PSG out of the competition that season in the semifinals en route to a runner-up finish in the tournament.

Can PSG get it done?

It’s common knowledge that few clubs in Ligue 1 can compete with PSG each and every season. That’s once again the case in 2024-25 as Luis Enrique’s men are nine points clear of Marseille at the top of the table, going unbeaten in 18 games. They have a 14-4-0 record and secured another victory on Saturday, beating Lens 2-1.

However, it’s been a completely different story for Paris in the Champions League. They’ve been very poor, going just 2-1-3. The side has scored just six goals while also conceding six. They’ve lost to Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid while beating Salzburg and Girona. Paris also settled for a point against Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven.

With only seven points, it feels like a battle for PSG to even make the Round of 16. In the new format, clubs from 9th-24th will have a chance to progress to the knockouts in a two-legged playoff. The top eight sides earn an automatic berth to the Last 16. Sitting in 26th, Paris can still earn a chance to fight for a spot in the next round, but they must win on Wednesday. Man City on the verge of elimination

City is in the same boat as PSG but technically, they’d be in the two-legged playoff because the English side is in the 24th. But, it’s an absolute shock that the Cityzens are even this low in the standings. We’re talking about one of the best clubs in the world. They’ve just immensely struggled in the UCL and had a terrible spell earlier this season.

Between late October and late December. Guardiola’s group won just one game in 12 and tasted defeat nine times, including five in a row at one point. In Europe, the Sky Blues have been incredibly underwhelming, collecting a 2-2-2 record. Their only wins came against Bratislava and Sparta Praha. Although City could most likely get into the Round of 16 through a playoff, it’s not an ideal situation.

On a more positive note, the Cityzens have improved their form immensely as of late. They smashed Ipswich Town 6-0 over the weekend and have gone unbeaten in their last six outings, winning four times. They will need to bring their best on Wednesday against a strong PSG side. City has +165 odds at most soccer betting sites.
