A spot in the Champions League quarterfinals is on the line on Tuesday, March 11 when Liverpool welcomes PSG to Anfield for the second leg of their Round of 16 clash. The kick-off is scheduled for 4 PM ET. The Reds ran out 1-0 winners last week in the French capital courtesy of a late winner from youngster Harvey Elliott. Paris is clearly the one with the uphill battle here, especially playing on the road in the hostile environment of Merseyside. Below, we’ll preview the clash and also discuss any notable injuries that both sides are dealing with at the moment.

Highlights

  • Liverpool and PSG meet on Tuesday in the Champions League
  • The Reds won the first leg 1-0 last week

Can Liverpool get it done?

No Jurgen Klopp, no problem. While some believed Arne Slot would take time to adapt as the new Reds boss after Klopp departed last summer, that hasn’t been the case. The Dutchman has led Liverpool to a phenomenal season, having essentially already won the Premier League title at this point. They’re 15 points clear at the top of the table and remain one of the best clubs left in Europe’s most prized competition as well.

Liverpool flew through the group stages with ease, finishing in first with a 7-0-1 record. And while last week’s victory over PSG in the opening leg wasn’t the most convincing, they still got the job done. But to be brutally honest, it was a miracle they somehow came out victorious, controlling just 29% of the possession in the fixture. The Merseysiders also had just two shots in total and one on target, which of course hit the back of the net thanks to Elliott.

Regardless, a win is a win and they kept up their brilliance on the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Southampton. By no surprise, Mo Salah played hero, bagging a brace. The Egyptian is now up to 32 goals and 22 assists across all competitions, including three goals in the UCL and four assists. He’ll be looking to make more of an impact on Tuesday after a quiet performance in the return fixture. Liverpool is sitting at +125 odds at Sports Interaction.

PSG needs to capitalize on chances

It’s no secret that Liverpool has an extremely solid backline. That showed last week, but Paris did batter them for all 90 minutes. The French outfit had 71% of the possession, 27 shots, and 10 on target. Yet, they couldn’t capitalize. Luis Enrique’s men also nearly tripled the number of passes that the Reds strung together. Needless to say, the result didn’t highlight who truly dominated this fixture.

Now, PSG heads into Anfield looking to pull off the unthinkable and knock off the Merseysiders on home soil. They’re also running away with the Ligue 1 title domestically, sitting 16 points clear at the top of the table. This club has been trying to reach the Promised Land in Europe for so many years and they’ve failed to do so. Despite the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar all gone now, this is still a strong group, as we saw last week.

In the UCL, PSG finished 15th in the group stages but destroyed Brest in the Play-Off, beating them 10-0 on aggregate. Ousmane Dembele has been their most lethal player in the competition, netting six times. Bradley Barcola also has three goals and three assists, forming a nice partnership with Dembele. Paris is a very slim underdog for Tuesday’s encounter at soccer betting sites.

Liverpool vs PSG injury news

For Liverpool, Cody Gakpo is expected to return to the fold after battling an injury. But, Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley, and Tyler Morton remain out. Elliott could get a start here, with Dominik Szoboszlai dealing with fatigue at the moment. As for PSG, they welcome back Dembele to the starting XI, having come on as a substitute over the weekend. Thankfully for Enrique, the visitors aren’t dealing with a single injury.
