Betway teams up with UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis ahead of his second title defence at UFC 312
Betway announced a partnership with UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis ahead of UFC 312 on February 8. Betway isn’t the only sports betting site partnered with a star from MMA. Bet99 is partnered with former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion George St-Pierre. “Betting on your favourite fighter is such an important part of this game. I think it makes it the most fun sport in the world to watch. Amazing to have a company like Betway backing me, backing athletes, helping the sport grow. And without brands like that, we couldn't be here,” Du Plessis said. This partnership adds one of the biggest stars in MMA to the Betway squad.
Du Plessis is scheduled to fight Sean Strickland in a rematch at UFC 312. Du Plessis won the middleweight title after defeating Strickland in the main event of UFC 297 by split decision. On Betway, Du Plessis is the betting favourite heading into the fight. Du Plessis has -188 odds to retain his championship. Strickland is the underdog. Strickland has +150 odds at the moment.

Betway and Du Plessis comment on the partnership
Betway Africa’s head of marketing Mark Rowles commented on adding Du Plessis to the Betway squad. “He’s a great ambassador for South Africa and African MMA. He has established himself as one of the top MMA athletes in the world, his International Fighter of the Year award is testament to the incredible year he has had in the UFC and we wish him well for his title defence at UFC 312,” Rowles said.
Du Plessis is the UFC’s first and only South African champion. Du Plessis defeated former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in his last fight at UFC 305 by submission. “Betway having chosen to invest in me and my sport is a tremendous honour. Knowing that this collaboration creates opportunity for aspiring MMA-athletes and South African sports talents, provides me with a great sense of pride and motivation to maintain our country’s championship status,” Du Plessis said.
Du Plessis, Strickland, and Betway’s partners
Du Plessis has a 22-2 professional MMA record. Strickland has a 29-6 MMA record. Their first fight went to the judges. Strickland is a former middleweight champion. Betway also has partnerships with Manchester City, Arsenal, the Ottawa Senators, West Ham United, and more.
