Bayern Munich Odds
Bayern’s short odds on the moneyline are a bit unexpected considering that they can simply sit back and play for the draw after winning the first leg 1-0. Their odds to qualify for the quarter finals are about as short as possible as well, which is also surprising after they nearly gave the first leg away in the second half, culminating in a few big chances near the end of the game and a red card for Munich defender Benjamin Pavard.
The French side actually had a beautiful Kylian Mbappe goal called back after a VAR check revealed the slightest of offsides in the lead up. In the end, Munich were pretty lucky to escape Paris with the win, especially considering their form in 2023. Since the turn of the new year, Munich has drawn four times in the Bundesliga and lost back in February when Monchengladbach took advantage of another Munich red card to win 3-2.
Bayern usually run away with the Bundesliga title, but they’re currently tied at the top with Borussia Dortmund. They have also been sloppy defensively, seeing red cards in three of their last six matches in all competitions. Bayern is surely the better team, but this tie is definitely far from over, which makes their odds to qualify very unattractive.
PSG Odds
The loss of a player of the caliber of Neymar, who is second in Ligue 1 with 24 goal involvements (13 goals, 11 assists), would spell doom for most teams, but PSG isn’t most teams. They’ve got tons of offensive creativity at the top of the formation with Mbappe, who leads the league in goals with 18, and Lionel Messi, who leads the league in assists with 12.
The rest of the squad just needs to worry about providing those elite forwards with enough service. All PSG needs is a 1-0 score for them at the end of regulation to force extra time on Wednesday. While Munich have won four of the past five meetings between these European titans, they did lose their last match at home against PSG 3-2 in the 2021 Champions League quarter finals.
PSG were also in very poor form going into the first leg of this Champions League tie, losing consecutive games to Marseille and Monaco in the week before their match against Munich. However, since that loss in the first leg, they have bounced back nicely, winning three straight while scoring 11 goals coming into this second leg.
Munich’s overall depth of talent, their recent success in this fixture, and the loss of Neymar for the French side all paint a picture of a dire situation for Paris. However, when you’ve got generational offensive talents like Messi and Mbappe, a one-goal lead is never secure.
