Highlights
- The 4 Nations Face-Off begins next week
- Canada and the USA sit as the favorites
- We’ll preview the tournament below
Team Canada
When you take a look at this roster, it’s understandable why Canada is expected to be competing for gold in Boston on February 20. McDavid is of course the headliner. The three-time Hart Trophy winner is having another electric season for the Oilers, scoring 22 goals and supplying 49 assists. Seeing him play with Crosby will be exciting.
In net, Jordan Binnington and Adin Hill will likely split the duties and both bring a championship pedigree to the table. Other notable players include Mitch Marner, Cale Makar, Mark Stone, Nathan MacKinnon, and Sam Reinhart. That’s just a glimpse. There is a plethora of All-Stars in the squad. Canada begins the tournament on February 12 against Sweden in Montreal. They have +150 odds to win the event at Sports Interaction.
Team USA
Hockey is growing rapidly in the States over the years and that’s evident by the number of high quality players in the NHL. The Americans just won the World Juniors and have a great developmental system. Their roster for the 4 Nations is impressive, with Auston Matthews probably the most notable name. They have a set of brothers with Jack and Quinn Hughes suiting up, while Matthew and Brady Tkachuk will put on the US jersey as well. JT Miller, Brock Faber, Jake Guentzel, and Jack Eichel are a few others who should play a key part in the States’ run at a hopeful trophy.
The goaltending group for this team is what really stands out. They have selected Connor Hellebuyck, Jake Oettinger, and Jeremy Swayman, who are all elite netminders in the NHL. Hellebuyck, who leads the league in wins (33) and GAA (2.04) will be the starter amid his impressive season. The Americans have the same odds at NHL sportsbooks as Canada.
Team Sweden
Sweden’s group is full of NHL names as well. Adrian Kempe, Filip Forsberg, William Nylander, Elias Pettersson, Victor Hedman, and Mika Zibanejad are a handful of players who will take the ice for their country. Every single player on the roster plies their trade in the world’s best hockey league. From top to bottom, it’s a strong group. The blue line could be the best they’ve ever fielded in a major tournament, while the forwards are all consistent producers at the NHL level. In net, Linus Ullmark, Jacob Markstrom, and Filip Gustavsson aren’t the best options Sweden has ever had, but they should be solid enough to keep them competitive.
Team Finland
There may not be a ton of star power on the Finland roster, but they always tend to be competitive in major tournaments. Aleksander Barkov just helped the Florida Panthers win a Stanley Cup last season, while Sebastian Aho is on pace for another fantastic campaign for the Carolina Hurricanes. Patrik Laine is finding his footing in Montreal, while Mikael Granlund was having a nice season for the lowly San Jose Sharks before getting traded to the Dallas Stars. Keep an eye on Finland.
