With the Australian Open now in the past, it’s time to shift the focus to the next Major – the French Open. We had a surprising winner in Melbourne, with American Madison Keys capturing her first-ever Grand Slam title. In fact, she beat the favorite for Roland Garros in the semifinals – Iga Swiatek. The Pole is a huge frontrunner in Paris, but there are others who should also contend for the trophy on clay. Below, we will dive into the players in the mix, with the tournament still a few months away.

Iga Swiatek
It absolutely no surprise to see Swiatek with steep -175 odds at Sports Interaction. After all, she has won three straight French Open titles and four of the last five. One could say she’s developing into the “Queen of Clay”, just like Rafael Nadal became the “King of Clay”. The Poland phenom beat Jasmine Paolini in straight sets in last year’s event, only dropping one set en route to the trophy. Swiatek is the second player in the world right now behind our next player, Aryna Sabalenka.
Aryna Sabalenka
Sabalenka is arguably the most in-form player on the WTA Tour right now and her ranking says it all. She’s No. 1. The Belarusian nearly won her third Australian Open in a row last month, losing a three-set thriller to Keys in the final. Sabalenka also won another Major in 2024, taking home the title at the US Open. The hard-hitting 26-year-old grabbed a total of four trophies last season. As for the French Open, her best finish came in 2023, reaching the semifinals. Sabalenka isn’t particularly great on clay, but she still has the second-best odds here at tennis betting sites.
Coco Gauff
It may have taken several years for Gauff to make her mark, but she’s fully arrived now. The American had four titles last season and also won the doubles title at the French Open. Gauff, who is the No. 3 ranked player in the world, lost in the quarterfinals in Melbourne to Spaniard Paula Badosa. Gauff has had some success at the French Open, losing in the 2022 final to you guessed it, Swiatek. She’s been a quarterfinalist and semifinalist across the last two years as well. You can expect Gauff to be in the mix at the latter stages of this event again.
Elena Rybakina
Rybakina broke onto the scene a few years ago now and she’s made some noise in Majors. The 25-year-old has one career Grand Slam title and that came at 2022 Wimbledon. She lost in the Round of 16 at the Aussie Open last month to the eventual winner, Keys. Rybakina had three WTA titles in ‘24 and her best finish at a Major was at Wimbledon, progressing to the semifinals. She was also a quarterfinalist at the French Open. She’s never advanced past the last eight in Paris.
